Please tell me why I am wrong.

Actually:
Being just lovers? But. What if you want more than that? Why is it that couples who don't want children can still get married, then, huh??? You're saying there's a next step for straights and not for gays. It's not fair. Again. Make a new word, why don't you?

Sky TheWolf

lulz at the new word. tell the press.

remember, it's still the morality issue. is it ok to have gay marriage? is there anything wrong with it? different people have different views. you need to take both sides and state the views for a proper argument, sumita.

i completely understand that some ppl's religions are against it, but don't your religions also say all human beings are equal? so shouldn't everyone be able to marry? even if gays can marry, it wont affect you in any way unless you are or know someone who's gay, in which case you should want a happy life for them and should vote no. All done.

The following is my view. All of the following words, phrases, and sentences are entirely the truth of my religion.

In my religion, Baptist Christianity, God created humankind so that humans could have relationships with one another, regardless of gender. However, people began sinning right after the creation of Adam and Eve and then people had estranged relationships. God did not mean for people to have sex with another person of the same gender. For many centuries, humans remained righteous, until now.

God created humankind to have true marriage - one man and one woman to be together. It should stay this way as the norm, as it has stayed in history since the beginnings of mankind. Everyone can be happy, but only true joy comes with REAL marriage.

[to Kyle]

Kyle, sure, everyone would like it if every human being is equal. But then you have to think, well if everyone is equal, everyone should be able to do whatever they want, right? But that's not the case. These days, a lot of it is money, economy, stuff like that. People work their lives to gain more, to save, to live a better life. But for that to happen, someone always has to be better than someone else, or have a better life anyway. Is that equal? Wouldn't that mean convicts have the right to do whatever they want? Why does a manager think twice of hiring someone if they have a bad police record or a poor upbringing, regardless of who they are now? If you're going to argue your point, Kyle, argue everyones. Because the world is far from equal right now.

[To Kyle]

The children working in Africa, Asia, and other poorer countries are doing child labor - while Bill Gates sits in his office or home, probably doing something to help them, but otherwise rich. The world may never be equal. Not everyone can always be happy (world-wise), not everyone can have the same rights as we enjoy. If a person has a computer, they are richer than 90% of the world. Imagine more than five billion people trailing behind you economically.

It is the same in how I believe that God created us equally in humankind, but not equally economical-wise. We are lucky enough - and yet, we're worrying about domestic relationships, and that everyone should have them? Some people can't even make enough money to live for a day. We need to stop worrying about what was and is morally wrong to this day.

So, please prove your point, Kyle.

Im not saying the world is fair/equal now, all im saying is we should strive for the most equal and fair world for everyone, while still maintaining some order of society. Obviously certain rights should be revoked- such as right to murder, rape, etc. But, if around 90% of people have some right, shouldn't the other 10%, barring they aren't mass murderers etc., since they've shown they dont deserve some rights, have this right also? If 90% of people have the right without anything going horribly wrong, would allowing 10% do that?

Also: (I know Philson's read this, Grace you probably will) Like in the Hangman, if we let discrimination against gay people exist (by not having equal rights of other citizens) who's to say that next people won't target another minority? Soon a prop may go out saying that all people who practice Judaism can't marry, or all African-Americans can't marry, etc. Just like in the poem Hangman. If we don't stand up for minorities, who's going to want to stand up for us?

Sky TheWolf

Really? Would it make much of a difference if gays were the minority? We're not talking about minority/majority here, we're talking about what people believe is right. Many people believe that we shouldn't let same-sex marriage be legal because then, people would be like, "Who's to get in the way of love?" and we'd all be arguing over who can marry that alien or animal or whatnot or anything. Yes, everyone should stand up for everyone, but that's not always the case and sometimes we've go to draw a line.

Philson Wong

61% of voters decided to ban same-sex marriage in 2000. It was instantly overruled by four judges in San Francisco solely on their opinions. Would that be fair? Most of the people still believe the original definition of marriage.

Kyle Kneeland
October 30 at 8:14pm

Gays are the minority, Grace. People should be able to marry anything they want, as long as they're both able to consent and do.

Philson: The entire point of judges is that people elect them because they trust what the judge will decide, and if they chose that judge themselves, they should agree with them. For supreme court judges (and probably some other judges) who are picked for life, they serve for life so they'll pick the choice that's right, not the choice that's popular by the public so they'll be re-elected. And just because the majority agrees with something doesnt mean it's right. At one point, the majority of the world thought the world was flat. At one point, the majority of the world thought the solar system/galaxy revolved around the sun. Yet, they were all wrong. Obviously facts arent the same to this, but there still is a connection.

Philson Wong
October 30 at 9:08pm

There was no point in saying that, Kyle. That wasn't the point I was stating - you're just trying to get off track. The majority is the right. People are influenced by their motivation - those who are wrong will try to constantly justify/reassure themselves. Those who are right will believe the idea adamantly.

And people with domestic partnerships are only looking for happiness and something to fill themselves up.

We must draw a line between stepping too far into forms of marriage. So you're saying people can have multiple wives and animals as spouses? That's much too far for what you're demanding.
